Canvas Quiz Logs

Canvas Quiz Logs are time-stamped logs that Canvas keeps during student quiz attempts. It's a general log that offers a broad view. Some items that are logged include when the quiz was started and when the quiz was stopped.

Why would I want to consult the Quiz Log?

According to Canvas, "This feature is designed to help you investigate problems that a student may have in the quiz and gain insight into your quiz questions. Quiz logs are not intended to validate academic integrity or identify cheating for a quiz."

Using Quiz Logs with Caution

Quiz Log data is not exact. Therefore, this data cannot provide definitive evidence for exact interpretations of student behavior.

A note from the Academic Integrity Committee:

"It is recommended that Canvas quiz logs not be the primary source of evidence in a case of suspected plagiarism or cheating.  It is possible to use these data as supporting evidence, but faculty should do so with caution.  If you are considering using Canvas quiz log data in pursuing an Academic Integrity Violation case, please contact the AIC (aic@chapman.edu) for guidance."
