How to add a file from Google Drive (LTI 1.3) in the Rich Content Editor in Canvas
Embedding a file
Click on the Apps Icon in the Rich Content Editor.
Select Google Drive (LTI 1.3) from the drop-down.
Note: if this is your first time using Google Drive (LTI 1.3) in the Rich Content Editor, you will need to select View All, then select Google Drive (LTI 1.3) from the list of available apps. You may also be prompted to sign in or verify your Google account.
Confirm that the correct Google account is displaying. Click Select file.
A window will open with your Google Drive.
Select the file from your Google Drive that you would like to add, then click Add.
Confirm that you would like to attach the file by clicking Attach.
-
- Note: Changing the sharing setting will ensure that all students have access to view the file. They will not be able to edit the file.
The file will now be embedded on the page.
-
- Note: The old Google Apps LTI allowed instructors and students to edit embedded Google files from within Canvas. This feature no longer exists. The old Google Apps LTI also gave instructors the choice to link or embed files. If you prefer linking rather than embedding, or your students need to edit the file, please see the instructions below.
Adding a file using a link
Select the Link Icon in the Rich Content Editor.
Select External Link from the drop-down.
Open your Google Drive in a separate browser tab and open the file you would like to link in your Canvas course.
Select Share in the top right corner.
Update the settings to allow anyone from Chapman University with the link to view, comment, or edit.
Click on the Copy link button.
Return to your Canvas course and paste the link into the Link field.
-
-
- Optional: enter text in the Text field that tells the students what file is linked.
-
Select Done.
The file will now be linked on the page.
