Adding a Hired Undergraduate or Graduate Student to a Canvas Course
Do you need to add an Undergraduate or Graduate Student to your course who has been hired by your department in some "Tutor" or "Assistant" or "Grader" capacity? Here is an outline of our new and improved process!
- Step 1: The Hiring manager contacts Student Employment
- Step 2: Student Employment will give the student instructions on how to self-enroll in FERPA training and submit a ticket to IS&T to create an Employee email
- Step 3: IS&T will forward the request to the Canvas team to add the student to the appropriate Canvas Course with the requested role
Note: If the hiring manager needs to hire more than ten students, please have Student Employment create one IS&T ticket for all the student workers. When providing information on which courses to add the students to, please prepare CSV (xlsx or Google Sheets are also acceptable) as shown in the Template below and provide a link.

Adding a Student who is not hired to a Canvas Course
If the undergraduate student is NOT hired, the request needs to be approved by Vice Provost Brad Petitfils
