How can I embed a movie in my Canvas course?

A movie can be embedded anywhere in Canvas you see the Rich Content Editor. That means, a movie can be embedded in an Announcement, a Page, an Assignment, a Quiz, a Discussion, or even in a Module.  For the purposes of this demonstration, I am embedding a movie on a Page within a Module.

  1. Decide what course module you want the movie to be in.
  2. Create a Page or choose an existing Page
  3. Click Edit to edit the page and open the Rich Content Editor
  4. In another browser tab, sign in to Kanopy Links to an external site.. You will need to sign in through Leatherby Libraries with your Chapman credentials
  5. Follow the prompts to sign in with your Chapman credentials at Kanopy
  6. Navigate to the movie you want to share with your students
7. Click Share to get your sharing options
  8. Click Embed to get an iframe embed code
  9. Copy the embed code to your clipboard
  10. Navigate back to the browser tab where you have Canvas open
  11. Click the </> icon to open the HTML editor
  12. Paste the iframe embed code into the HTML editor
  13. Click the </> icon to toggle back to the Canvas Rich Content Editor
  14. Save or Save & Publish
  15. When your students click on the movie they will be prompted to log in to Kanopy via Leatherby Libraries with their Chapman credentials. Then, the movie will be available to stream.
